Kuselan blocked in Karnataka
Activists in Bangalore on Wednesday vowed to block the release of the forthcoming Rajnikanth-starrer Kuselan in Karnataka, saying the Tamil superstar should apologise for his 'anti-Kannadiga' statements.
The threat comes days after the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had given its nod for the film's release in the state.
On Monday, Rajnikanth had written a letter to KFCC president and actress Jayamala to ensure that his film got a release in Karnataka on August 1, along with its launch in Tamil Nadu. He had clarified that he had never intended to hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas.
Terming the superstar's letter just a publicity stunt, former legislators Vatal Nagaraj and Prabhakara Reddy at a press conference here asked Rajnikanth to come out with a public apology.
"We will not allow the release of the film in Karnataka, come what may," said Nagaraj, who addressed reporters along with many leaders of pro-Kannada organisations including a faction of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.
Some Kannada organisations had been demanding that Kuselan be released in the state only after a seven-week moratorium as Rajnikanth had allegedly hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas by supporting Tamil Nadu on a row over a drinking water project in Hogenekkal, on the border between the two states.
The superstar had joined the Tamil film fraternity in a daylong protest fast in April against Karnataka's objections to the Rs 13.3 billion Hogenekkal project that is expected to benefit about three million people in two Tamil Nadu districts.

Looking For A Job Is Easy But Landing Is Difficult - As A Fresher U Should....
The world of possibilities suddenly opens up for you as soon as you graduate from college. No more sleepless nights trying to figure out what to write in a term paper and no more peer pressure in doing those crazy things during spring break. You are now unemployed but with great potential and could be hired based on your education and relative experience while in school.
However, looking for a job is very easy but landing one is a very difficult task. Remember that you’re not the only graduate this year and when the great job is available, you’ll be competing with hundreds of applicants.
To increase your chances of being hired, here are some tips that you may consider before and during job hunting. These are pretty simple but are often neglected by fresh graduates who are too excited to land a job.
Clean your online profile
Even before we reach college we are already members of different social networking sites. We often post pictures in these websites so that we can share with our friends our adventures and even the crazy things that we have done. Before you even apply for a job, check your profile and delete the pictures that could hinder you from being employed. Also advise your friends to do the same so that you can completely clean your online profile.
Proofread your resume like crazy
Remember that you are not in a deadline like your final thesis. Take your time in writing an excellent resume and proofread your resume. Read it twice or thrice and have a friend read the resume and read it again. It might sound crazy but you can never be too sure that you have a good resume.
Customize your resume for every company
Resumes used to be simple sources of data of the applicant. But that situation is long gone and resumes are used as a tool for increasing your chances of getting hired. Know the company philosophy and the skills they require and customize your resume based on that information. By customizing your resume to each company you are planning to work with, you are highlighting the skills and personalities the company are looking for from a candidate.
Update your professional profile
Aside from cleaning up your online profile, it’s time to update who you really are online. Use your network to spread the word that you are looking for a job. Use different online job search websites and update your profile there. Companies who are looking for candidates will usually access your information online and contact you if you like what you see.
Act professionally
Being young doesn’t mean you are given a free ticket to act casually during job interviews. You are already in the professional world and although you are young, you can show yourself as respectable as the president of the company by being professional.

Do u know..?? SMS...??
Transmission of short messages between the SMSC and the handset is done using the Mobile Application Part (MAP) of the SS7 protocol. Messages are sent with the MAP mo- and mt-ForwardSM operations, whose payload length is limited by the constraints of the signalling protocol to precisely 140 octets (140 octets = 140 * 8 bits = 1120 bits). Short messages can be encoded using a variety of alphabets: the default GSM 7-bit alphabet (shown below), the 8-bit data alphabet, and the 16-bit UTF-16/UCS-2 alphabet.[16] Depending on which alphabet the subscriber has configured in the handset, this leads to the maximum individual Short Message sizes of 160 7-bit characters, 140 8-bit characters, or 70 16-bit characters (including spaces). Support of the GSM 7-bit alphabet is mandatory for GSM handsets and network elements,[16] but characters in languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese or Cyrillic alphabet languages (e.g. Russian) must be encoded using the 16-bit UCS-2 character encoding (see Unicode).
The first SMS message[8] was sent over the Vodafone GSM network in the United Kingdom on 3 December 1992, from Neil Papworth of Sema Group (now Airwide Solutions) using a personal computer to Richard Jarvis of Vodafone using an Orbitel 901 handset. The text of the message was "Merry Christmas".[9] The first SMS typed on a GSM phone is claimed to have been sent by Riku Pihkonen, an engineering student at Nokia, in 1993.[10]

Online security screening to start soon--VISA
Europeans and others who travel visa-free to the United States can start registering in August for a new online security screening check that will become mandatory in January to enter the US, officials said Monday.
The new security measure will replace current paper forms that foreign visitors from the 27 countries that participate in the US visa waiver program have to fill out once they enter U.S. territory at airports and seaports. It will not apply to land border crossings into the United States, where authorities will continue to use the paper forms.
The Electronic System of Travel Authorization - or ESTA - "will help to modernize our pen and ink system and bring it into the 21st century," said Jackie Bednarz from the US Department of Homeland Security. "All travelers including children of all ages must have an approved ESTA beginning January 12."
No fee will be charged to fill out the online form, which will be valid for trips to the US over a two-year period or until the traveler's passport expires within that time.
The measure is meant to increase security of the visa-waiver program allowing the government to screen visitors before they travel.
There are 27 countries whose citizens are not required to obtain visas for US entry: 15 European Union countries as well as Andorra, Australia, Brunei, Japan, New Zealand, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Norway, Monaco and Singapore. Eight other countries could be admitted to the visa waiver program next year.
The electronic system adds to existing identity and travel checks that Washington has imposed on foreigners since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Visitors already have to provide fingerprints to US border guards when entering the country; airlines they use forward data including passenger names, addresses, seat numbers, credit card information and travel details.
The new security measure is being studied by the European Union to determine whether it constitutes a new visa restriction.
European Union officials have warned that if the new online travel security document represents a new visa requirement, the EU might introduce countermeasures for American visitors.
The US government has repeatedly reassured the EU that the new system would not amount to a new visa, but would simply replace the current forms Europeans have to fill out when they arrive in the US Those green and white forms require visitors to supply their names, passport details, the address where they will be staying and answer various questions, including whether they have been convicted of war crimes.
Travelers will have to submit their online application at least three days before they head to the U.S. and most should be approved within 24 hours, U.S. officials said. Those who have their online forms rejected will have to apply for a visa or seek further help at their local US embassies.
Bednarz added the online form will be available in more languages like French, German or Spanish as of October 15. The Web site is currently available only in English during its testing phase.
India-China unity couldn't save WTO talks | Talks fail
Intensive negotiations among key members including India and China broke up due to sharp differences on special safeguard mechanisms for the agricultural sector.
“It is disappointing. Last mile. Last mile of concern for development of farmers,” said India’s Commerce Minister Kamal Nath.
The US wants developing countries to open up their economies for agricultural imports and along with EU, agreed to cut its farm subsidies, as quid pro quo.
But India and China, argued that this measure is useless, unless imports increase by 40 per cent and that would prove devastating for their domestic farmers.
This was not an India versus US issue, India had the backing of 100 countries including China. The exclusive focus on special safeguards was also seen by developing countries as a US ploy as it had little to offer on the issue of cotton subsidies.
“It is heartbreaking. In the end an irresistible force met an unmoveable object,” said EU Trade Commissioner, Peter Mandelson.
But WTO director General Pascal Lamy is still hopeful things will look up.
“People from small groups and large groups have told me that what was on the table should be captured, preserved, too early to throw in the towel,” he said.
There was sadness as the talks ended because success would have come as welcome news for a world facing threats in its food, fuel and financial services markets.
“It is unconscionable that we have pushed the gains of the past 30 years,” said US trade representative, Susan Schwab.wto

Salary increments in IT companies in India
EDS is giving an average increment of only 8 per cent to 10 per cent this year, substantially lower than the 18-20 per cent it gave last year.
"In some cases last year, it even went up to 40-50 per cent," said an employee of the company. That's the increment trend across the tech sector. "We have received lower increments this year," said an employee of Infosys Technologies. "Laterals got only some 8 per cent hike. A company security policy e-mail has also asked us not to share such details with anyone outside.''
Mohandas Pai, head of education & training in Infosys, said that inclusive of variable pay, the company's increments this year were in the range of 11 per cent to 13 per cent, against 13-15 per cent last year.
Senior HR executives at some large tech firms confided that their companies are not in a position to increase salaries '' beyond single digits' ' at least for a couple of years, till the global markets stabilize .
''Companies are hit from all corners. Market downturn, increase in hiring cost and billing pressures is choking even large players. This has forced them to drastically revise their increment formula,'' says Mohan Lal Menon, managing director, Sentient Consulting, a corporate consulting firm. The biggest pressure is seen to be coming from the US, which looks to be quickly slipping into a recession.
Almost 60 per cent of the revenues of many Indian IT companies come from the US. Tech firms are increasingly moving away from an equalitarian regime in compensation.
''Companies preferred it as they wanted to keep employees across the board (except the bottom 10%) happy, to keep attrition at bay. But in today's scenario, cost pressures are compelling them to change that approach,'' said the HR director of a tier 1 tech firm.
Job Apirants...Here goes a methodology for success
It doesn’t matter what area you are in, it doesn’t matter what Your intentions are, you need these 4 magic words.Whether you realise it or not, you use these to achieve anything and everything, and any lack of success can be traced to a lack of one or more of them. They all begin with the letter ‘A’, blimey, just imagine if I went through the whole alphabet!
Attitude.
This includes taking responsibility for your life, for your actions and the consequences. It includes having the faith to push yourself beyond your comfort zone time and time again. You need to have the belief that you *expect* to succeed, and the belief that you are fully worthy of getting anything you want.If your attitude is correct, then you will have no trouble with
the second magic word:
Action.
Without action, all the dreams in your head, all your ambitions, will stay exactly where they are, in your head.Without action, you will forever be saying ‘one day’, and ‘when the time is right’. Take the first step, whatever it may be, take it.
You will either find that it *was* the right step, in which case you will realise that your goal is that bit closer, or you will find that you have taken a wrong step, and hey, guess what? This *also* makes your dream closer! It’s a win-win situation. When you take action, you will be truly astounded by the opportunities that present themselves to you, which you never would have thought of before hand. This shows that although making plans is essential, taking action is even more essential, because you open yourself up to all the help that unexpectedly comes your way.
A great example of taking action is the third magic word:
Ask.
Just ask! Do not think that the world knows what you want without you asking, and do not prejudge, do not decide what the world’s answer will be. Many people have a real problem with asking for things, it’s a failing in our education if you ask me, but it is stunning how often the answer is a simple ‘yes’, if you just have the courage
to ask.
And the fourth magic word beginning with the letter ‘A’?
Abracadabra.
Not a very good joke I agree, but it makes me laugh. Abracadabra, magic word…
Geddit? Hmm...
So there we are, get your ATTITUDE right, which will enable you to take ACTION, and often the simplest action you can take is just to ASK.

China plans space industry by 2015
China has unveiled its plan to build a world-class comprehensive space industry by 2015 under a blueprint of the country's Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC).
The blueprint released by the state-owned CASTC plans four more scientific research and production bases, including in Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and Hainan, in a move that would enable China to have eight space industry bases.
Presently, China has four bases in Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi and Sichuan. "By 2015, the CASTC would take up 10 per cent of the international commercial satellite market, and 15 per cent of the world commercial space launch service market," the blueprint said.
China sent a Nigerian communication satellite into space in 2007. The country would also launch services in fields such as satellite management, capital investment related to the space industry, and aerospace information software, the blueprint said.
The CASTC, a leading research and production group building the country's aerospace and missile systems, carried out 50 successful spacecraft launches on board its Long March series of rocket carriers, sending 43 domestically-developed satellites, six spaceships and its first lunar probe.
China had also launched two manned space trips in 2003 and 2005, with the next one, the Shenzhou VII, expected in October in 2008, when the country's astronauts would attempt China's first spacewalk.
China with an ambitious space programme launched its first lunar orbiter in October 2007. It also plans to produce a new generation of more powerful rockets to inject heavier satellites into space.
Yahoo strikes deal with Icahn to end proxy battle
Yahoo gave in to the pressure from corporate raider Carl Icahn ahead of the annual meeting and granted him three seats on the company's board, ending a proxy fight for the control of the online giant.
Yahoo said its board will be expanded to 11 members, one of whom will be Icahn, who will be able to recommend two other directors.
The settlement names eight members of the board of directors eligible for re-election. The line-up includes CEO and co-founder Jerry Yang and chairman Roy Bostock.
It does not include Robert Kotick, the ActivisionBlizzard (ATVID) CEO, who is stepping down from the board of the Sunnyvale, California-based company, as defined in the agreement with Icahn.
The settlement ahead of Yahoo's August 1 annual meeting ends a two-month-long proxy fight for control of the company by Icahn, who has been spearheading a shareholder rebellion aimed at replacing the company's entire board in retaliation for its rejection of Microsoft's USD 47.5 billion takeover bid in early May.
Icahn, who bought his shares earlier this year, advocates selling Yahoo! to competitor Microsoft.
But in a July 17 letter to shareholders, Yang and Bostock decried Icahn as a recent investor with "a strong incentive to strike any deal with Microsoft that enables him to recover his investment and get his money back quickly."
Icahn, who has made a name on Wall Street as a activist shareholder, owns nearly 69 million shares, or nearly five per cent, of Yahoo.
Meanwhile, Yang said he looked forward to working with the new board members to "help us take advantage of the large and growing opportunity ahead of us."
Sachin Tendulkar to make his Bollywood debut
Sachin Tendulkar will make his Bollywood debut with a cameo role in a film about the miracles of the elephant-headed Hindu deity Ganesh.
Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the world's best batsmen, will play himself in Vighnaharta Shri Siddhivinayak, a film about the god, who is sometimes referred to as Siddhivinayak.
"He will play a small role, as himself, either in a song sequence or in an actual scene," said Rajiv Sanghvi, whose company is handling the film's production.
Tendulkar's office confirmed the cricketer would be shooting for the film after he returns from Sri Lanka where India is touring at the moment.
Tendulkar, a devotee of Ganesh, had offered to be a part of the project and will not be charging for the role, Sanghvi said.
The film is being produced by the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, which looks after a famous temple dedicated to Ganesh in Mumbai.
"Sachin has been a regular at the temple for many years now and he never gives up an opportunity to show his devotion," said Subhash Mayekar, chairman of the trust.
"Vighnaharta Shri Siddhivinayak" is due to begin shooting next month, and will also feature a voice-over by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
CUIL -- NEW SEARCH ENGINE
Pitched as the world's latest, largest and swiftest search engine, Cuil was launched Monday with 120 billion pages or 'thrice' the volume of the Google index.
Described as a 'super-stealth search project', it has been founded and developed by the highly respected husband-wife duo of Stanford professor Tom Costello and former Google search architect Anna Patterson.
Originally Cuill, pronounced as cool, Irish for knowledge, has now been named 'Cuil'. A report on the web quoting the founders claimed that it is "bigger, faster and better than Google's flagship search engine in pretty much every way".
The Internet has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 15 years, speedily outpacing search engines. But Cuil is expected to search more web pages than Google and 10 times as many as the search engine of Microsoft.
Where Cuil scores over rivals is the way it indexes the web and handle queries by users. Both are costly operations, but Cuil claims to have found a way to slash those costs.
A search for dogs, for example, will return category results for "water dogs," "crossbreed", "cocker spaniel" and so on. Some of these related terms do not include the term "dog".
Similarly by clicking on New York, one would get tabbed results for recommended refinements like New York Times, New York City, New York Yankees and so on.
A search for "Harry" would throw up different tabs for "Harry Potter" and "Prince Harry of Wales". Further, the Harry Potter tab will provide more sub-links devoted to actors, Gryffindor dorm-mates and others associated with the series.
That would permit Cuil's founders to operate the search engine much more cheaply, even at Google-scale should it ever reach that point. Google incurs an expenditure of a billion dollars every year on running the infrastructure of its search business.
Cuil also works to understand how words are related. Say France - cheese - wine, to get more relevant results. This is a semantic search approach very different from Powerset's natural language approach.
Powerset uses artificial intelligence to try to grasp what sentences on a website actually mean. Cuil, by comparison, simply tries to categorise and file a web page, even if the category name doesn't appear on the site.
However, Rafe Needleman, writing on the Cuil homepage, cautioned that "it's one thing to have a nice interface and show users good results, but the size of the web index that the engine has access to matters a lot as well".
"Compared with Google's globe-spanning network of data centres, some literally set up near dams so they can tap hydro power more efficiently, Cuil's two puny data centres hosting less than 2,000 PCs total will have to run pretty fast to outpace Google's crawlers.
"As a business proposition, Cuil is obviously a big bet ... No other search engine has come close to entering the public consciousness like this. Of course, Cuil doesn't have to trounce Google on day one. It took Google quite some time to surpass Alta Vista and Yahoo in the search wars."

Kerala...On the Hit list ??
Major commercial centres, IT parks, important places of worship, bus stands, railway stations and airports are under close observation of security and intelligence personnel.
With a security alert having been sounded across Kerala as well after a television channel claimed it had received an email saying Kerala could be the next target of terrorists, the Kerala Directorate General of Police Raman Srivastav said that there was no need to panic as security had been stepped up.
PTI adds:
"I have been informed by the DGP of Karnataka about the terror threat to Kerala. We spoke to the journalist concerned who said he had received two calls today -- one at one pm and another at 3.30 pm," Kerala Police chief Raman Srivastava said.
The DGP convened a high-level meeting to review the security arrangements in the state.
"All my boys are out on the streets. All bus stations and public places are being closely monitored," Srivastava said, adding Bomb Disposal Squad and Rapid Action Force have also been pressed into service.
Meanwhile, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said there was no need to panic and the state police was in touch with their counterparts in Karnataka.
He urged people to refrain from spreading rumours.
For All Sons Who care for their Fathers
If your father is 35+ & Indian, he is at severe risk of Cardiac problem
Indian people are suffering from facing tremendous amount of health problems today by many diseases. Indian union budget had not focused on the health system of India until 2007. There was not focus on the prevention of major diseases like cardiac, diabetes and obesity. (1)(2) Due to Indian epidemiologists' continuous effort on this sector, the preventive health care idea was welcomed. It is always better to be late than never. Today the occurrences of death due to cardiac diseases have increased to 4 folds in India in past 30 years. Indian and International health agencies have already been giving alarming notice on increasing CVD(Cardio Vascular Disease)in India since last 15 years (3).
Such cardiac problems are increasing in the young age people, which makes an economic burden to the nation's economy and especially for the fast running and progressing countries like India. Such diseases really become speed breakers of the nation's economical development. According to a report, due to the deaths of people from age 35 to 64 due to cardiac disease, India has lost potentially 9.5 million years of work in year 2000 alone. It is expected that by 2030, these count will reach up to 17.9 million of potential productive years (4). According to WHO report, due to loss of these potential years, there will be a loss of 237 Billion US dollars due to heart diseases, diabetes and stroke disease. For the country like India, this is really a huge amount of money and its more than one year's total union budget's fund of entire nation.(3)
Cardiac disease and relevant death is a worldwide problem today, but its geographical markings have really changed since one decade. It has drastically transferred from the western countries to the eastern countries and especially to the countries with low and middle income (5). South Asian countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and India are marked as danger zones for cardiac diseases. People from this geographical area suffer from cardiac disease about 10 years earlier than other western and developed countries (7). India and its neighboring countries have a big challenge of providing treatment of cardiac diseases in poor economical areas since a patient has to bear the whole burden of expenses himself. The concept of medical insurance has not reached to poor people yet in these countries. Indian hospitals have access to world's latest and best technologies but poor people can not afford it. One more big challenge to Indian heart society is pediatric cardiac care. Pediatric care is in very preliminary level and there is tremendous opportunity in this field for the development. There are very limited numbers of experts in India in pediatric cardiac surgeries. And most of them are engaged in metro and big cities only. There is no data in pediatric cardiac death in the past years due to limited sources.
According to a recent cardiac journal there will be 100 million pediatric cardiac patients in India 2020. Right now there are only 30 million existing cases.
Cardiologists are giving reasons for increasing amount of cardiac disease in India. The main reasons include change in food habits and life style of the people. Western style and high calorie food intake, increase craze of computer games instead of outdoor games and lack of regular exercise. WHO has estimated that by 2010, India will become capital of cardiac disease overloaded by 60% cardiac cases of the World. Cardiologists have warned people and government to start awareness and provide facilities for prevention of cardiac diseases in India like many western countries. They have also suggested taking extra care of children's diet and to maintain their weight constantly since obesity is the mother of all diseases starting from diabetes, kneeing joint problems, blood pressure and life threatening cardiac diseases. Indian cardiologists have also studied and proved from the data that the cardiac disease and other independent factors like stress, type II personality, smoking, snoring, occupation, life style and socio economic status are highly correlated.
Opportunities in IndiaIndia has remained center of attraction for medical tourism for Middle East countries since almost a decade. For surgeries for cataract to cardiac and appendicitis to joint replacement, a huge amount of patients from these countries have enjoyed a cheap and quality medical service since years in Indian metro cities. Maharashtra state has set up a council for development, which is a billion dollar business globally. Escort heart institute officials in Delhi have said that for countries like Britain and USA, it cost nearly $ 25,000 for an open heart surgery, whereas in India it costs $6,000 including air travel and five star facilities to the patient and relatives. Doctor of India can speak very good English and they are very well trained, so patients across the world get best treatment in best rates (5). Indian medical officials also trying to reduce the interest rates of medical insurance for western patients if patients are agree to take medical facilities in Indian hospitals.
Prevention of Cardiac disease.
Life style changes, change of food habits, to participate in leisure time activity, playing sports for most days of week, keep blood pressure in control are some of the major measures to be taken care of. Yoga is also considered as a good preventive method for cardiac disease. 'Pranayama' can help in removing blockages in the vessels and in increasing lung volume and lung capacities. Yoga has been proven as a good preventive and treatment measure for the cardiac disease (5).

Common Mistakes in Preparing Ur Resume
2. Find out what skills, knowledge, and experience are needed to do that target job.
3. Make a list of your 2, 3, or 4 strongest skills or abilities or knowledge that make you a good candidate for the target job.
4. For each key skill, think of several accomplishments from your past work history that illustrate that skill.
5. Describe each accomplishment in a simple, powerful, action statement that emphasizes the results that benefited your employer.
6. Make a list of the primary jobs you've held, in chronological order. Include any unpaid work that fills a gap or that shows you have the skills for the job.
7. Make a list of your training and education that's related to the new job you want.
8. Choose a resume format that fits your situation--either chronological or functional. [Functional works best if you're changing fields; chronological works well if you're moving up in the same field.]
9. Arrange your action statements according to the format you choose.
10. Summarize your key points at the top of your resume

Serial blasts rock Bangalore, 2 killed
Bangalore was hit by eight serial bomb blasts at crowded locations on a stretch from Brigade Road to Hosur Road.
The blasts reportedly occurred at within a span of 12 minutes, leaving two dead, including a woman, and several injured.
The first blast took place around 1.30 in the afternoon. The low-intensity crude bombs were planted mostly near refugee settlements and were triggered by timers.
Bomb squads were rushed to the blast sites. The telephone lines were jammed as a precaution. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa called an emergency meeting of the cabinet. The CM later said the blasts represented a "planned conspiracy to vitiate the atmosphere" in the state.
Karnataka Welfare Minister Shoba announced a solatium of Rs one lakh for the family of the deceased woman, and said the government would bear the medical expenses of those injured.
City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari urged the people to "carry on with their daily activities without any fear."
However, as the news of the blasts spread, major shopping malls and schools were shut down. Panicked people caused traffic jams across the city while heading for their homes.
In Delhi, the Union Home Ministry said they had forewarned Karnataka about an attack. Home Minister Shivraj Patil condemned the incident, saying the government would deal firmly with anti-national forces. Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta said nuts and bolts were used in the bombs, adding that the motive for the bombings was not yet known.

Ahmedabad Blasts
Twenty-four hours after 17 bombs rocked Ahmedabad, the focus on Sunday moved to Gujarat’s business centre – Surat – where two cars full of explosives were recovered.
Two live bombs were defused in Ahmedabad as well.
While in a night-long raid, the Ahmedabad police rounded up over 30 persons, the investigations picked up momentum after a man from Amreli, Kamlesh Patel, allegedly received a shocking phone call.
"I got a phone call in the evening after the blasts went off. (The caller) said kaam ho gaya (The work’s done). First it came from a mobile phone then the other call saying the same thing came from an Ahmedabad landline. The Deputy SP called me and I told him everything,” said Kamlesh.
An eyewitness in Surat also said the man who could have been carrying the bomb. “I saw a man who was wearing a copper-colour shirt, he had a plastic bag in his hand which he left here and ran away. A few others also saw him here,” he said.
With a little known group like Indian Mujahideen warning and claiming responsibility of the serial bombings, investigators are lapping up every bit of information. Even the defused bombs are a boon in disguise, they say as their make gives out vital clues.
Police are now hoping to have a better understanding of not just the quantity and material used but also the timer mechanism that triggered the bombs.
The first blast was triggered off at 6.45pm in Bapunagar's Sardar Patel Diamond Market. Within 15 minutes, Narol Circle, Isanpur Govindvadi, Jawahar Chowk and Maninagar bus stand, Juhapura, Civil hospital premises and Raipur Darwaza were rocked by blasts.
At 1900 hrs (IST), four simultaneous blasts were reported from Isanpur bus stand, Saranpur Chakla, Saranpur Darwaza and Khodiar Mandir. Within next 30 minutes, four more blasts rocked Rajendra Park, L G Hospital, Maninagar Char Rasta, and the surrounding area near Rajpur police Chowki.
In Mumbai, a potential lead went cold when the IP (Internet Protocol) address of an e-mail sent by a little-known terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was traced to an American National residing in Navi Mumbai but turned out to be the handiwork of a hacked.
